01 Sep Intwasa Hlobo Activation
The first issue of ISPILI Magazine carries an ancient energy that meditates on what and how we can understand the present by exploring the idea, feeling, and concept of SPACE. it interrogates what memory is and how it is packaged in colonial settler cities, thereby re/producing particular modes of being + temporalities; it charts the visual landscape of graffiti as a tool to transform and create new worlds, as well as the creative force and teachings that inkenkqe opens/ ruptures.
The founder of ISPILI Network and ISPILI Magazine editor @Sisonkepapu speaks about how the magazine came about, how it is medicine and a collective offering to align us with the African cosmological sense of being in the world, collective consciousness, his initiation into ubugqirha, and the importance of honouring our unique gifts, as well as aligning with our purpose in this realm.
This first activation of ISPILI Magazine occurred in Grahamstown, Rhodes University, Fine Art Department, 2018, as part of a collective process called Self Care Things 2.0 curated by Heidi Sincuba.
